THE JOB
Project Manager candidates are seasoned individuals with an educational background in construction, accounting and/or business with more than five years field experience. The Project Manager candidate should possess in-depth experience with on-site and office construction management. The position places an emphasis on learning all areas of heavy civil construction management at Burns Dirt, fully integrating candidates in multiple aspects of operations. Candidates will be equipped through 1 on 1 training opportunities with skills in leadership, management, and business relationships.

 RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Review project plans, specifications, and site conditions to ensure readiness for execution.

  • Facilitate clear communication of project requirements to all stakeholders, including subcontractors and suppliers, to ensure alignment and efficient resource allocation.

  • Interpret and analyze plans and specifications to fully understand project scope and objectives.

  • Collaborate with Project Superintendents and Foremen to strategically plan and organize construction activities, focusing on efficient execution and quality control.

  • Proactively monitor project progress through regular updates from Project Superintendents, aiming to keep projects on schedule and within budget constraints.

  • Negotiate contract revisions and amendments to accommodate project changes while maintaining productive relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.

  • Develop detailed project schedules and resource allocation plans to ensure optimal manpower and material management.

  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding any project delays or significant changes, maintaining transparency and trust.

  • Address and resolve any project-related issues in collaboration with supervisory personnel, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to quality standards.

  • Review and evaluate construction methods weekly to enhance cost-effectiveness and operational efficiency, discussing findings and recommendations with Project Superintendents.

  • Generate comprehensive progress and financial reports, utilizing real-time data to track work progress, expenditures, and adherence to schedules.

  • Oversee the preparation and submission of project documentation, including approvals for materials and subcontracting plans, ensuring compliance with client specifications.

  • Implement and continuously seek innovative methods to enhance project management processes and operational efficiency, sharing insights and recommendations with senior management.

  • Manage the creation and submission of monthly financial summaries, ensuring timely and accurate billing and payment processing for all project-related transactions.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Suggested Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent work experience.

  • Familiar with Mississippi DOT and Alabama DOT standard specifications.

  • Well organized, detail oriented, ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work in team environment.

  • Ability to develop productive relationships with partners.

  • Highly productive and willing to manage a busy work schedule independently.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Computer knowledge and efficiency.

  • Familiarity with requirements of drawings and specifications and with terms and conditions of contracts and purchase orders.

  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Previous field crew experience is a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Currently Burns Dirt operates within a 150-mile radius of its home office in Columbus, Mississippi. Intermittent day travel is to be expected depending on location of project.
